Your South Asian Therapist in Brampton

I am Gulrukh Khan

Hi, I’m Gul. I help immigrants and South Asians not just get by, but truly thrive. My goal is to support you in embracing your identity and living a life that feels true to who you are.

As a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and founder of Empowering Roots in Brampton, Ontario, I understand what it’s like to feel torn between your own path and the expectations of others. You might be navigating pressure from your family or culture, trying to figure out where you belong. Or maybe you're dealing with stress, anxiety, or relationship challenges and don’t know where to turn.

I work with people carrying these kinds of burdens, especially from South Asian, immigrant, or BIPOC backgrounds. I’m here to listen, to help you feel understood, and to guide you as we work through these challenges together.

Why I Became a Therapist in Brampton

Imagine walking out of a session feeling unheard and misjudged, or worse, feeling a need to defend your choices, religion, culture, or family.

As a South Asian, immigrant, Muslim woman, and person of colour, I recall walking away from my therapy session feeling exactly that: UNHEARD and MISUNDERSTOOD.

Empowering Roots was born from a desire to offer culturally sensitive, and holistic therapy to those carrying multiple identities. Working together, each session will help you feel heard, supported, and seen. We are here to help you feel EMPOWERED and support you on your healing journey.

I know how hard it can be to juggle family, culture, and your own needs. I’ve been through it myself, and that’s shaped the way I approach therapy. I wanted to help others who are facing similar struggles, so they don’t feel as alone as I did.

What Therapy Looks Like with Me

When we start working together, it’s really about creating a space where you can talk openly, without feeling rushed. We’ll go at your pace. I’m here to listen and understand what’s going on in your life, and together, we’ll figure out how to get through it.

Our therapeutic experience involves creating a space that celebrates YOU - your strengths, challenges, uniqueness, and heritage while tackling any challenges you may be facing. Together, we'll explore different approaches and techniques that fit your needs. Because let's be real... therapy isn't a one-size-fits-all deal. It's about finding what clicks best for you and making the journey as enriching as possible to help you become an EMPOWERED You!

What I Believe

I believe everyone has the ability to grow and change, no matter what they’ve been through. Therapy is about helping you figure out what’s holding you back and finding ways to move forward. It’s also about making sure you don’t feel like you have to choose between your culture and your personal growth.

I know therapy can be tough. It takes time, patience, and a lot of trust. I’m here to offer a space where you can feel safe to explore whatever’s on your mind. My goal is to help you build a life that reflects who you are, not who you think you need to be. I want to help you get to the point in your life when you are EMPOWERED to take on what comes your way.
